What I Do and Why I Do It
There is nothing more rewarding to me than looking into a young person’s eyes and seeing that “click” of recognition, when I find a way to explain a tough concept and the writing skills improve. This is something I can achieve by working as an English tutor via private online sessions. I love teaching one-on-one online and I am told I am as personable, interesting, and engaging as I would be in the classroom. I work for my business and freelance contract work fully remotely, and I’m very accessible and flexible for your student’s appointment needs. I am easy to talk to, not intimidating, supportive, intuitive, a great listener, and highly focused on our lesson. I am energetic and create a flipped classroom in that I aim to draw material from the student by asking questions. I see our work as a partnership and I want us to forget that the computers are there and that we are several states or even a continent away from one another.
I am able to work on many different skills with your son or daughter: basic grammar, essay or paragraph organization, vocabulary, reading comprehension, informative and persuasive writing, speech writing, literary analysis, AP English, and research paper writing. Please keep in mind that your child will be receiving up to and including college level instruction—tailored to fit their needs—from a former professor at a fraction of the price you might pay a large tutoring company. It’s a great deal, and you’re not likely to come across it very often, but I’m passionate about working with young people and know that this is part of my calling.
Are you ready to hire me? Here are the details!
I offer the following pricing for tutoring sessions in English: $50/hr. You can book one session, two, three, four, or five sessions below. If you book a fifth session, there is a discount on that session as my way of saying thank you! If you would like to book a tutoring session(s) with me, please use my contact form to let me know of your needs when you book (buy) your session(s), and please email me any materials that I will need to prepare our lesson.
One last note! It is extremely important, and required, that you pre-pay and pre-book your session. I have a lot of different students and I freelance, and I can no longer take verbal (or email) bookings that are not paid in advance because of no-shows, because that has a significant impact on my ability to earn a living. If you would like any of my former or current clients to “vouch” for me that I will absolutely make good on the booking, just let me know! If you want to hop on Zoom quickly to meet me before booking, I can do that too!
Remember to book at least 24 hours in advance of your session. I cannot hold your session time open if I have less than 24 hours notice.
RETURN STUDENTS: Please note that those who booked sessions in 2022-2023 will be charged the RETURN STUDENT price, which is their original price for sessions, as long as they continue to return in 2024. Pricing for RETURN and NEW STUDENTS is given below. Just click the one that fits you and we will get started!
Important Guidelines for Tutoring:
Tutoring appointments, once booked, are non-refundable. If something comes up and you are able to let me know 24 hours in advance, we can reschedule the appointment. If your son or daughter is a no-show, there is no refund and no rescheduled appointment unless you book another. I will wait 15 minutes for the student to show. If the student does not show in 15 min., I will consider that a no-show.
Please keep in mind that I cannot guarantee what grade(s) your son or daughter will earn on any assignment we work on. I can tell you that typically a student’s grades will improve after we work together, but the amount of improvement is highly individualized. Also, even if we look over rubrics and comments from the teacher and attempt to use that material to improve the student’s skills, we cannot predict exactly how the teacher will grade the next assignment. Some teachers grade tough, and some do not. Some have arbitrary rules, and some do not. We cannot read minds. We can only do our best.
Your son or daughter must meet me halfway: I can teach a lot of skills and give so much feedback and support, and I can explain things various ways, but if a student is distracted or doesn’t put the effort in, that can affect his or her comprehension. Ordinarily, students DO show improvement after working with me, and some show significant improvement, but this is not a given that I can say will definitely happen. If you are concerned about this factor, you may want to book only one session at a time if that makes you more comfortable.
